Battombang

After two nights in Siem Reap we decided to head to Battombang, a town south west of our location on the other side of the Tonle Sap lake about 3 hours bus ride from Siem Reap.

Our thoughts behind going to Battombang were this;  from there we were perfectly placed, geographically speaking, to either get a bus back to Phnom Penh on the 6th for our flight to Chiang Mai (via Bangkok) or we could get a bus directly from Battombang across the Thai border and to Bangkok which would take about 6 hours.  This decision would depend largely on what Battombang had to offer.

We arrived around lunchtime and checkin to our guesthouse called the Bus Stop.  A small place run by an Australian guy, the Bus Stop is well priced and the rooms are ok but the website oversells it a bit.

Ligita was feeling a bit unwell that afternoon so I decided to do a walkabout and see what there was to do in this town.  Result:  nothing.  We could see more Khamer Rouge killing fields or go for a swim in the lake.  Seen it all before so next morning it was off to grab a bus to Bangkok.

The bus would take 2.5 hours to get to the Thai border, a 2 hour lay over there while we did the immigration stuff and waited for our next bus and then a 4 hour trip to Bangkok.

Soooo many buses…I’m starting to miss my Celica! :)
